Updates on the U.P. train derailment live: Several Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express carriages derrail near Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in four deaths and twenty injuries.

At least four people were killed and 20 others injured after the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed and eight coaches overturned on July 18 in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh. The cause of the accident is being ascertained.

Two trains have been cancelled and 11 trains diverted due to the accident.

“Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near Gonda in Uttar Pradesh around 2.35 p.m.,” railways officials said, according to PTI.

A 40-member medical team and 15 ambulances are at the spot and more medical teams and ambulances are being rushed there, said Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner G.S. Naveen Kumar.

A 40-member medical team and 15 ambulances are at the spot and more medical teams and ambulances are being rushed there, said Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner G.S. Naveen Kumar.

According to the relief commissioner’s office, the helpline numbers- Gonda: 8957400965, Lucknow: 8957409292 have been started. The Railway Board has issued the following helpline numbers – Commercial Control: 9957555984, Furkating (FKG): 9957555966, Mariani (MXN): 6001882410, Simalguri (SLGR): 8789543798, Tinsukia (NTSK): 9957555959, Dibrugarh (DBRG): 9957555960.

    Echoing Trinamool Congress national spokesperson Sushmita Dev, Mahua Moitra said, “Another derailment in UP. Shame @AshwiniVaishnaw – Indian Railways in Emergency room after 10 years of Jumla Sarkar.”

    Ms. Moitra emphasised the urgent need for safety measures, advocating for the immediate installation of the automated train collision avoidance system (KAVACH) across all railway routes.

    TMC MPs blame Railway Minister for Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express accident

    The Trinamool Congress has blamed Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in Uttar Pradesh, which claimed four lives and left at least 20 people injured on Thursday.

    While the party’s Rajya Sabha MP and national spokesperson Sushmita Dev said the railways, which serves as the primary mode of travel for millions, is no longer safe, TMC Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra commented that the railways appeared to have entered an “emergency room” phase after 10 years of the Narendra Modi government.

    Offering her condolences to the bereaved families and expressing solidarity with the injured, Ms. Dev said, “Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the blue-eyed boy of @PMOIndia, is costing us lives!”

    Apart from Commissioner of Railway Safety enquiry, a high level enquiry has been ordered. Enhanced ex-gratia of ₹10 lakh to the death, ₹2.5 lakh to grievous injury, ₹50,000 to minor/simple injury has been announced.

    While the Railways have put the toll in the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailment at two and the number of injured at eight, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has said four people were killed and 20 injured in the accident.

    Priority to save lives of injured in U.P. train derailment: Deputy CM

    Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that currently their priority is to save lives of the injured in the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailement and give them the best treatment.

    Senior officials of the Health Department are on the spot and an adequate number of ambulances have been rushed to carry the injured, he said.

    “Train number 15904 Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express that left Wednesday night from Chandigarh derailed near Gonda Junction station between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations at around 2.37 p.m. on Thursday under the jurisdiction of North Eastern Railway (NER),” Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer, Northeast Frontier Railway, said.

    Assam govt in touch with authorities: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

    Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said his government is in touch with the authorities concerned following the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh.

    “HCM Dr @himantabiswa has been briefed about the derailment of Dibrugarh – Chandigarh express in Uttar Pradesh,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on X.

    “HCM is monitoring the situation and the Government of Assam is in touch with relevant authorities,” it said.
