Kanhaiya Kumar, Congress Candidate, Attacked in Delhi with Ink.

In a disturbing incident, Kanhaiya Kumar, the Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha seat from North East Delhi, was attacked by a group of seven to eight individuals who also threw black ink at him during his campaign in the capital city. The assault, which occurred in East Delhi’s New Usmanpur area, was captured on video and has since gone viral. Two of the alleged assailants even recorded videos boasting about their actions, claiming they attacked Kumar because of his past statements about the country and the Indian Army.

According to a complaint filed by Chhaya Gaurav Sharma, an AAP councillor from Brahmapuri, the attack took place as she and Mr. Kumar were leaving the party’s office in Kartar Nagar. The attackers reportedly garlanded Kumar, threw ink at him, and then physically assaulted him. Several women, including Ms. Sharma, were also injured in the incident, with one woman journalist falling into a drain. Ms. Sharma further alleged that the attackers threatened her and her husband.

The Delhi Police have acknowledged receiving Ms. Sharma’s complaint and stated that they are currently investigating the matter, including verifying the videos of the incident.

In subsequent videos released by the alleged attackers, they justified their actions by claiming that Kumar had made inflammatory statements and insults against the Indian Army. They referred to slogans allegedly raised at JNU in 2016 during Kumar’s tenure as the Students’ Union president.

Kumar, aged 37, is contesting against Manoj Tiwari of the BJP, who is the incumbent Member of Parliament from the constituency. The upcoming sixth phase of voting in Delhi is scheduled for May 25th.
